Every once in a while, you have to take that giant leap into the unknown and change your life. So that's what I've done: applied for and been awarded a service dog named Raisin from Freedom Service Dogs of America, located in Enterprise, Colorado.

The whole process took 10 months, and included two weeks of complex in-class instruction. It's been many years since my college days, but Raisin and I graduated August 12th, 2022. I've learned to think of Raisin as my battle buddy. He's a black Labrador Retriever, accompanies me nearly everywhere I go, and has been trained to distract me from issues related to PTSD. He's a lot of work, but he's also a joy I can't fully describe.

If you ever find yourself in need of a service dog, I highly recommend Freedom Service Dogs of America.
